A typical dance warm-up consists of some jogging, stretching, and barre exercises. However, a new study finds that a different warm-up could be better for preventing injuries.

Warm-ups are meant to prepare the body for movement. In this study, ballet dancers performed either a traditional dance warm-up or a neuromuscular warm-up, one that involves balance and strength exercises. The dancers who performed the neuromuscular warm-up reported fewer overuse injuries. Don’t be surprised if you see dancers warming-up with some push-ups and planks!
